Learning Log
Friday 27th February
Today during class we were allowed to start research for our assignment. I found my first poem by searching up Maya Angelou because I know she is a well-known protest poet. The first poem that I chose is called ‘Still I Rise”. I also found the poem called ‘No more Boomerang’ by Kath Walker, which is good because it really shows her context.
Monday 3rd March
Today we were given a library lesson to do some of the research on the poets and the poems. I did some research on Maya Angelou and started writing the 150-word bibliography on her.
Friday 6th March
Today in class I was able to finish the bibliography on Maya Angelou and I started working on the part of the assignment, which had to do with the context of the poem. I also ended up being able to finish the context part of the poem and then I started doing a little research on Oodgeroo Noonuccal. I found that both Maya Angelou and Oodgeroo Noonuccal were both protest poets and there poems both were very similar in their context.
Saturday 14th March
Today at home I managed to read about Kath Walker and write the biography on her. I found it really interesting in how similar the two authors were and how they both went about protesting for the rights of aboriginals (Kath Walker) and women/ African Americans (Maya Angelou). This was also evident as I was writing about the context of the poem ‘No more Boomerang’ as it also showed how everything was changing and that the rights of Aboriginals were being taken away. I then watched the video of Maya Angelou reading the poem ‘Still I Rise’ to gain some information on the 300 word TEEL paragraph that I had to write.
Sunday 15th March
Today I wrote the 300 word TEEL paragraph on how the poem ‘Still I Rise’ uses techniques to convey the theme. It took me a couple tries to finally get the hang of it and construct and finish the TEEL paragraph. I used the video on Maya Angelou reading still i rise to help me understand the context and the emotions that she put into it.
Tuesday 24th March
Today I made the website and put all my information into it. But before that I read and wrote the TEEL paragraph describing how the theme is conveyed through techniques in the poem ‘No More Boomerang’.
